About Dr. Terry Polevoy

Portrait of Dr. Terry Polevoy

Dr. Terry Polevoy is a Canadian physician, consumer advocate, and publisher with a longstanding interest in evidence-based medicine, consumer protection, and public health.

He established Narcononymous to preserve publicly available information concerning Narconon, CCHR, Scientology-affiliated organizations, addiction treatment, psychiatry, court proceedings, government investigations, and related public-policy questions.

For many years the project was published anonymously because of concern about unwanted personal attention and hostile responses. As the site evolved into a historical research archive, Dr. Polevoy chose to identify himself as its founder and editor in the interests of transparency and accountability.

Why comments remain closed

The original website did not accept public feedback. That policy continues. The archive is designed to present documents and clearly attributed commentary, not to host confrontational exchanges. Readers who believe a page contains a factual error may submit supporting documentation through the contact method designated by the publisher.

Personal background to the project

Dr. Polevoy’s interest was shaped in part by experiences in the early 1990s after he publicly discussed the presence of Scientology adherents among some healthcare practitioners. He recalls receiving hostile telephone calls from a Toronto-based Church of Scientology official. A longtime former assistant also told him that, while employed by a chiropractor in Kitchener, Ontario, she was expected to become involved in Scientology and recruit patients. This paragraph records the founder’s recollection and the account reported to him; it is not presented as an independently adjudicated finding.
